Your Impact at SAM
The OSP Field Technician / Designer will work collaboratively with the engineering / design team on the production of outside plant design for fiber-based telecommunications infrastructure projects and will report to the Project Manager \u2013 OSP Engineering and Design.
Responsibilities will include the planning, design, permitting, and documentation of communications infrastructure, with an emphasis on OSP fiber optic cable infrastructure projects such as Road Moves, New Build Fiber Extensions and Last Mile customer builds to include ISP, FTTx, and 5G. Extensive knowledge of the standards and specifications of utility owners, R/W owners, and OSP construction practices for fiber optic cable plant is required. Evaluate designs for constructability. Provide guidance and training to production team members.
Must be able to travel overnight stay
Ability to be on feet (walking) all day
Ability to work in adverse settings and climatic conditions
Operate field equipment and tools including GPS, lasers, measuring wheel, height sticks, etc
Coordinate field surveys of outside plant aerial and underground network facilities; develop running line other design elements.
Research and define local jurisdictional regulations, coordinate permit application process and ensure that design conforms to specifications.
Interpret underground, direct buried, and aerial telecom facilities records on maps and fielding notes.
Develop and prepare design/permitting packages
What You Bring to SAM
3 years of relevant telecommunication industry experience required.
Strong experience with AutoCAD and/or Bentley Microstation CAD systems is a major plus
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently as well as a team
Strong knowledge of design techniques, tools and principals involved in production of outside and inside plant designs.
Strong organization and project management skills.
Strong knowledge of RF and optical networks is a plus.
Familiarity with design standards relative to OSP, ISP, FTTx is a plus.
Experience with OSP and ISP telecommunication industry standards, engineering processes and practices, and their impact on project
Competency in understanding and interpreting complex building, tower, construction, and roadway plans
